  • On going "mis fire"

I've just had an auto sparks round and found..........nothing.

I think it may be a gbox problem as when we bridged the diagnostic connector we had 3 o/d flashes. Then reset the diagnostic and then got continous flashes.

    No defined code.

    Ideas are greatly appreciated.

Will be changing the gbox fluid tomorrow

Enlighten me. How can a gearbox issue cause a misfire?

    More likely to be fuelling.

Thats the dilema. No fault codes on engine, just the gbox

When engine is hot, and the truck in reverse a "mis-fire" or what now seems to be an ignition cut out arises

If any load on the engine the ignition seems to momentarily cutout causing all the electrics to die and return to life simulating a mis-fire.

Only when hot and when in reverse.

On the flip side when in drive any pot hole or manhole cover does exactly the same thing, just not so severe, so making it driveable....ish

The auto sparks has checked the loom, plugs, joints, relays, replaced the ECU and nothing can be found.

I'm thinking a trip to the main dealer coming up or autobox specialist, with specialist hourly rates.

Disconnect the reverse light switch at the box, see if that changes anything. Also, did your electrical genius check the earths?

Damn this slow dongle broadband doohicky!

I was going to mention earths or maybe even add an extra earth strap from body to engine.
Has any of the transmission electrics been submerged recently?
Check the multi-plug on the transmission at the shift linkage, there could be corrosion there.
          Re-new the rad cap.

Checked all the earths, even used a jump lead as an additional, but no change.

              Trans fluid still not changed

No deep water immersion since November 08, not even done 5 miles since Nov 08. Multiplug checked and cleaned.

              Reverse light no difference

Rad cap replaced and its solved!!!!..............Ah no its not.

We are at a complete loss. Even to the point that he hasnt bothered calling me to say when he's coming back! Probably won't come back, but hey he hasn't charged me.

I'm getting concerned it may be main dealer time. Or worse eBay time.

                    Right....

All switches, connectors, plugs, loom and relays checked and cleaned. ECU replaced and still no joy.

Have just noticed that I have a constantly flashing O/D light.

                    ??

Non of the big auto sparks firms want to touch it. None of the autobox specialist around here want to touch it, each saying its electrical or gbox related.

I've got the hump and I think its going to be an ebayer.

Unless someone comes up with a better idea?

                        Yes TC is fine.

In drive its ok apart from the intermittant "miss" which I'm sure is a broken wire or similar. In reverse its far more noticeable.

I'll try and get a video posted so you all can see and hear whats happening.

From battery neg to engine lifting hook.

Also have removed, cleaned and replaced body earths.

Now I have noticed that when it misses, there is a relay clicking up behind the glove box.

                            Any ideas what they are?
