exhaust and cam belt

i need a new back box for my surf but have thought about just putting a straight pipe in its place.
has anyone done this and if so would it be to loud and would it alter the fuel consumption and running of the engine.

i also need my cambelt changing i have bought one ready and was wandering if anyone on here would like to earn £50 for doing the job. i have been quoted £70 from a local garage but thought i would ask on here first.

I'd do it for you but it would cost more than the £20 difference in deiasel getting here

£70 from a decent garge isn't a bad price IMHO
