starter motor problem

when i turned it over this morning the starter motor carried on running and got faster and faster, i switched the ignition off and tried again and all was fine, i presume a component within the starter is sticking, but havent found a thread on this one,

oh yeah, ive been through a lot of deep water lately, if thats anything.

i have looked at the starter on the truck and it looks incredibly clean as if it isnt the original one, but its been ok since ive had the truck about three years.
