  • Rear crank seal

    Looks like mine is leaking.

Gearbox backwards or engine forwards and up?
How much grief am I about to let myself in for? How many hours shall I book away from SWMBO?

I might even consider paying someone to do it. Anyone done so and have a price?

      Over-full maybe?

Do this first- Check your oil level when cold with vehicle on the level. If it`s anything over the top-mark the rear-crank seal may leak. I drained a bit out of mine and the leak stopped.

        Top tip that man!
Actually I checked the level today. I have not started the engine since Monday and its parked on a level driveway. The oil level is about 1mm over the hatched area. I think I will drain it down and see what happens before I attempt to remove that rather heavy looking gearbox.
        Thanks for the advice.

Mine has leaked very very slightly since it has been parked on an upward hill every night.

Hmmm, still leaking. I think I will give Forte Seal Conditioner a go, the interweb says it works so it must be good.
Snake oil it may be but I really dont want to have to remove the box unless I really have to!
