  • another economy question

Hi all, i expect this is a subject that is wearing thin.

Im just trying to ascertain a ruff economy figure of a 3litre td surf.

I would be using it mostly for work, so doing a lot of longish trips... with a lot of motorway driving... (should be the most ecenomic way )

Is there anyone out there in a simular situation if so... what mpg/ KpL do you get on motorway runs etc....

    eagerly awaiting a responce!

    Thanks All..

Provided you keep your right foot light. I've had 28mpg from mine but only when running it at around 55-60mph on the M-way.

Ive heard some people reporting 30+ mpg out of the 3Litre is this at all possible then? or are there calculations mistaken...

also is there significant variants that can effect the mpg... i would be driving very sensibly with no roof bars/spots just base model with no extras... alltho some of the time i would be heavy laden... I dont genrally use air-con either that often so that wont worry me to much...

is there a huge difference in mpg between manual and auto, as i know ther sometimes can be...

        Cheers!

I've been running mine for the last 2 years and never see much more than mid 20's even when doing motorway runs

trouble is these trucks be it the 2.4td or 3td are not designed really for motorway driving so you cant really put it in 5 and just cruise at 70.i generally see better economy at 60 with the trailer and just under 3000 rpm.(i have 2.4td auto)

Has anyone else noticed that it dont really matter if your fully laden up ie 3 men, heavy trailer and track car,40ltrs of optmax in jerrys,4 spare wheels tools and spare engine and gearbox plus a set of front wings or wether its complety empty it hardly effects the fuel consumption or speed(a little slower or acceleration) but torque seems to be there.?

yeah, both my 2.4s towed really well, even a loaded transit didn't phase it too much. Certainly seemed to cope a lot better with towing than my mates paj (2.8 TD). I haven't towed with the 3.0 litre yet, but i'm expecting it to tow pretty well. As for economy, i don't really keep too much tabs on it any more as my driving tank to tank varies so wildly, but my 2.4s were both returning 16-18mpg, mainly short trips & town work.
