I'm making some enquiries now to find out if it's a normal Harmonic Balancer or a solid pulley. It may take a day or two as I'm trying to find someone who supplies them and has one that I can look at for myself.

      Thanks Nev

We will get to the bootom of the problem the end I am sure.

I would have liked to get the one off mind today but we have to have people over for lunch.
      (bet it rains next weekend!)

      Regards

Contacted a large auto parts supplier here in Oz and the price for a pulley is AU $295.00. Asked is it a solid or bonded two piece and was told it is a bonded two piece harmonic balancer.

This is the aftermarket Nuline brand, part number HB1132-N

Hey StevenN read this and check for blowing....

Mines a 3.0ltr and the pulley is solid and looks nothing like a 2.4 one.

Even though i have done all this i have also found that even new belts can squeak when the engine revs drop too low. When mine is nice and warmed up she started to tick over at about 600 rpm and you could hear the squeak. Brought it back up to 750rpm and no squeak at all. All it took was half a turn on the idle screw.

Just need to stop the bluddy 4wd button rattling in the transfer box handle....

One way to prove if it's the belts squeaking is to spray a small ammount of WD40 on the belts whilst it's ticking over, if the squeak goes then you have proved where it's coming from.
It's NOT a cure, just for diagnosis, you may then either need to replace the belt/s or re-tension them/it.
            Hope this helps.
            Regards, John.
