  • Harmonic Balancer

    Hi All

My surf has developed a twittering noise when on idle or low revs.
I don't think its the belts as they seem fine.
I have looked on here and the Aussi Forum and the usual culprit is the Harmonic Balancer.
A few people say that this a repairable item if not a bit hard to remove but my questions are as i look at the crank pully I can't see anything that looks rubber. do I have one on a KZN130 engine?

also is it repairable or what is the most cost effective replacement?
and what will happen if i do nothing?

    Thanks

    Steve

    Buy a replacement - quick

Mine was twittering, by the time I changed it, it had chewed through the timing belt cover. Was lucky as a large peice of cover was nearly off and would have been big enough to damage timing belts.

While the fronts off think abouth new water pump at the same time. I didn't and had to take it all apart again few weeks later

ps the rubber bit isn't visible from the top, only when pully's off.
    My other cars a QUAD

      Erm

I may be wrong but I thought the Harmonic Balancer was a 2.4 part, and didn't reside in the 3.0 litre.

Last time this came up, it was declared that the 3.0 didn't have one....

Edit: Where is it on here?

                Harmonic Balancer

Well its back to the drawing board then.

I will have to recheck the belts.

you know what its like though, you look for a problem hoping its expensive like a £100+ pully then you find you don't have that type.

I will give the bonnet a kiss when I get home

They have a crankshaft pulley just like the 2.4 so why wouldn't it also be the same as a 2.4 and also act as a harmonic balancer. Without one the crankshaft would destroy itself.

                      oh bugger?????????

We need someone with a 3.0ltr who has changed one.

I have emailed Roughtrax to ask if they do a pulley to fit.

I will post the reply when I get it

13408-67020 is the part number. Look here - http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&so...ZXPAWkLHc08MUA - at page 26 and the prado with the 1KZ-TE Engine and the HB1132-N which is the Harmonic Balancer for this engine.

I wasn't saying there was no crankshaft pulley, Nev, just that it has previously been stated that it's not got the harmonic balancer as in the the 2LTE (and that I couldn't find where it is in the engine manual). Your part number is correct

The rubber is inside it by the way Steven.
