timing belt light

When I turn on the ignition the timing belt light shows. It goes out as soon as the engine starts is this normal or does it need changing. The guy I bought the surf off says the belt has been changed but he cant find the recipt, is there any way to check if the belt has been done?

TB light on before starting engine is normal. No sure way of knowing if it has been done unless you do it yourself. BTW the T B light has nothing to do with diagnostics.

Many thanks, I,ll now wait for it to stop on/flash at me then get it changed. I dont care if its too early thats a damn sight cheaper and less trouble than too late.
