  • Has KZN185 3lt AUTO box got a filter?

Tranny oil looking a bit brown and smelliing a bit burnt.
I hope to change oil at the weekend and want to know if the tranny has a filter.

Also, whats the best procedure for fully draining the box?

    Cheers

yep the KZN185 auto baox has a filter, to change it you need t otake teh sump plate of the bottom of the box & it's in there. It's like a very fine metalic mesh and either roughtrax or milners do 'em.

To fully drain the box, first remove the drain plug, this sould release abit 2 1/2 to 3 litres of ATFluid. you can then simply top up with the same amount down the dipstick hole. If you do that again in abot 2 months you will have pretty much changed it all.
For a total change, as well as removing the drain plug, take off the sump (which you would do for the filter change anyway, start the car & go gently through the selections on the gear shift & this wil release the rest that's in the torque converter (about 6 litres).
Fill the same way, via the dipstick hole, and when you think you have put enough in (don't overfill or you will knacker the box) start teh car, go through the selections & keep checking the levels with the dipstick.

hope the helps (Phew) it is easier than it sounds. I did mine about 14 months ago & took me less than 2 hours, including a trip to factors for more dextron III
