Cambelt tensioner

Ok done the search thing and found a few answers but not the one i am looking for.........
Looks like rather than just do a quick fix on the surf i bought she is getting minor surgery....specially in the "oh look another missing bolt" or "well thats not very tight is it" area of my new found exploits into surf ownership....

My question is when i try to push the cambelt tensioner pin in it moves 4-5 mm then no more...... no way is she going to go in enough to push allen key in.
Is it buggered or am i missing something like having to line up the holes proper like before compressing ??????????
i am compressing it in a large G-Clamp, is this going to be enough ???

Oh yeah happy new year and chuff is my ring spanner cold working on her in this weather....

i found the same thing and just did the clamp up slowly till the tensioner pin went in.Put the alan key in then release the clamp.I then pulled the alan key out just to make sure the small ram came out again ok and then did the same thing with the vice and then re-fitted it

i am compressing it in a large G-Clamp, is this going to be enough ???

it took a vice to shift mine in, the spring is a bit strong, bent the allen key, I ended up using an obo nail - put a smear of greese on before putting it in , its easier to get out!

Ah well read few more posts and then went and ordered a new one from roughtrax, she's getting lots of new parts so she better be greatful and run like a dream or miss swan will meet mr vesta for a firey romance........
Ooooh that means i gunna get loads of prezzies sent to me at work.....that will get them wondering.
Of to morrisons in the trusty celica now to dream of shiny new bits for me truck while the missus reads every label on every tin to check the fat content...i just eat the ###### stuff.
