  • Whizzing sound

Experiencing a whizzing sound when accelerating, assuming its turbo related.

After reading some previous posts I have checked the air intake pipes which are perfect, I did notice however that the breather pipe to the rocker cover had come off (by previous work or blowing off I dont know)

I reconnected this but im still getting the noise, The rubber flexi pipe from the turbo is ok and swells slightly when the engine is revved.

    Am I missing anything else?

there is no loss in power and there is plenty go from the engine.

    thanks

    Steve

Not taking the p1ss here, but don't all turbos whizz when you accelerate?

I associate a whistling noise with what a turbo sounds like, eg. subaru's

this whizzing noise is aswell as the normal noise that Im hearing.

The noise is only audible when accelerating and not idling?

yes, but if driving along and keeping the revs stable at about 2k with no strain on engine so that turbo is not running the whizzing can still be heard.

Does it do it when the engine is cold?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

it does it regardless of temp. cold or normal.

was looking a wee while ago at that breather pipe to the rocker cover, seems it has been off for quite some time as there was a lot of thick oily residue all over that end of the cover, all cleaned now and reconnected now.

are all the belts tensioned up enough
only a thought cause it may be them making the noise if they ain't tight enough

Does it do it when the truck is not moving?

Check all the stuff that's belt driven. Maybe a belt, as Richard said, or the fan, or one of the pumps or the alternator.

I had this problem too and it turned out to be the Exhaust Manifold Gasket, I thought it was the turbo playing up at first. Check to see if you can see any leaks/puffs of smoke escaping when you rev the engine.

this noise has gone now since changing my ecu, guess it was related to improper turbo boost with the box changing at strange revs.

                            cheers
