  • kzn185 clutch/dualmass flywheel

    Hi all,
Been doing a search on clutches and dual mass flywheel. My problem is lately when i start the engine when its warm it gives a huge shudder, thought it was engine mounts but these dont seem to have made any real difference.
Yesterday i drove about 7 miles and when i came back to the jeep and started it (it was still hot)it gave the usual shudder and then just as it fired up a huge knocking sound from low down, thought it was my engine first but after this it runs perfectly,no noises only on warm start up. i have traced the banging noise and it seems to be coming from the bell housing,so i take it that my dual mass flywheel is about to go breakup.
Am i better to replace it with a new dual mass again or go for the conversion like i have seen on the roughtrax website?
Has anyone here had any experience with either of these changes and in the long term have you had any problems. Is the conversion sucessful?
    Any advise would be great.
    Thanks in advance g1xer

yep certainly sounds like your flywheel is about to give up the ghost,i would certainly go for the solid flywheel conversion.i have one fitted to my 2.8 and its never given me any trouble.and propably never will.

Solid conversion would be cheaper but I think you need to source a Prado flywheel and clutch. I'm sure others will know more.

These may be the parts you need but I am not sure -

The Clutch kit (Prado) = 04314-60170C
      The Flywheel (Prado)= 13405-67060

Tony fitted a solid version for me over two years back - it's been trouble free.

Hey Nev, thanks for all your help here and on the Aussie site. I've been away a while b/c my Surf has been running well. Now my clutch is slipping on an '89 JDM LN130 2LT. Do you know if these use the 240 mm flywheel that comes with the Roughtrax clutch kit/flywheel package?

              Thanks in advance,
