ok guy's. Re this post i put on the other week
    http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/sh...ad.php?t=50423

Well, i took advice and went to Toyota for a new seal. Put it on yesterday and did a bout 50 miles. Got up this morning and its leaking again.
I'm gutted. Would i be right in thinking that the only thing it can be now is the shaft??
    Help please!!!!

Be very unusal for the shaft to have worn as the rubber seal is the softer material . Is there any movement in the shaft in any direction within the axle ? It may be a problem else where causing the seal to weaken and let oil past .

Hmmm, not sure Rick. I'll jack it up in the morning and see. The strangest thing is, the leak this time is a hell of a lot slower than the others have been, in fact its only a sloooow run.
I'll let ya know to moz what i find.
      Cheers!! for answering.

Hi Rick, not sure what you mean on the movement comment, i have jacked it up to day to check for play on the wheel end and there isnt any.
What i cant get my head round is when the shaft is inserted into the diff the seal slides over the chrome ring (cant think of the name for it) that is be hind the bearing, that and the bearing was changed when it last leaked, 1 month ago. the seal dont actually sit on the shaft its self so any marks or imperfections wouldn't matter ether would it?
Anyway mate, wheres all the top mechanics when yo need them

Were the two seals and the o-ring replaced?

Yep, both times, although Millners said i didnt need the "O" ring (the one that fits round the end of the diff)
Cant see that being the prob tho cos if the oil has got to there then its past the seal, hasnt it??

Some 3rd generation Surfs seem to have rear axle seal problems and others don't. Those that have replaced with genuine seals seem to solve the problem. It just may be the Milner seals. Replace the o-ring as well. It's a bit silly not to and for Milners to say you don't need it.

Here's an old thread about the seals on the Aussie forum.

I don't want to sound like a lemon here, but in Wales in May, I think GWH thought his rear diff was leaking, turned out it was the rear wheel bearing - just a thought in case the oil/grease is running along the axle making it look like the issue is at the diff

Hmmm, interesting reading Nev. Nice to know i'm not alone with this problem lol.
Makes me wounder if i have nicked the seal when putting the shaft back in, all though, 3 times is pushing it even for me lol.
So, what i will do, i've ordered another seal from Yota and i'm going to fit the other shaft.....suck it and see then.
Big thanks for the info Nev, i'll let you know...Cheers mate.
