    Hello again All,

For quite a while now I've noticed something strange which happens to my truck and wondered if anyone here could please help with suggestions for possible causes and\or cures?

When engine is cold my truck (3.0L) seems to pull without any problems and turbo can be heard whistling away nicely. Unfortunately, once the engine has warmed up properly, things start to change.....quite a noticable loss of power and the turbo can only be heard very faintly if I stick my head out of the window. I keep looking for stuff like split or disconnected hoses but there is nothing obvious. I've also checked ECU fault codes several times which show clear so what else should I be looking at.....any ideas?

        Re

I would check connections to the Turbo.

Maybe the heat is expanding something? and killing the vacuum.

Make sure all your pipes are pukka and without hidden splits etc.

I was thinking along exactly the same lines. Unfortunately I'm no mechanic by any stretch of the imagination so can only check for the obvious.....and so far nothing is "OBVIOUS" to me.

Don't suppose there is anyone in the know, local (ish) to Manchester, who wouldn't mind taking a look for me please? I'm not expecting a free mechanic here.....prepared to pay for experience.

I can have a look over it for you mate, I'm not a mechanic but know enough, might be able to spot something which isn't obvious to yourself.
Email me your number if you want me to take a look.

Thanks Toad - If its not too much trouble that would be brilliant.

Tried sending an email but it seems that you have the facility disabled. Could you please email me and I will reply?

              Cheers

I am interested what you find with this one, as I presume the loss of power occurs after the temperature rises to about 85 degrees C, the torque converter lock in and the revs drop off. I have had a similar problem occurring lately. The only way I can resume power is to put my foot down and kick back a gear, letting the revs build up again, only to find that as soon as the torque converter locks in again I'm back to square one..

If you and Toad can't find the problem between you, Stevo will be able to help:

                      Thanks Sancho,

Hadn't realised Stevo was general mechanic......for some reason I just assumed his company was cylinder head refurb/repair/replacement only.

                      Cheers

I have no idea if he does all mechanic things, but he can certainly do anything on a Surf engine.
