  • klonking N/S/F steering/suspension

I've just bought a 1994 3.0 TD hilux but there's an annoying klonk coming from the N/S/F suspension, it's also scrubbing the tyre, is there a common fault on these that someone can identify or should I just start changing bits until I cure it? I've just bought an anti-roll bar bush set (the cheapest parts) to start with, if this doesn't cure it which bit or bits do you think I should try next? top & bottom ball joints? wish bone bushes? anything else?

    Many thanks
    Ian

this clonking noise does it happen on full lock if so it may well be the steering bump stops and all you need is a blob of grease on each on on each side

It klonks when driving straight over bumps & potholes & it also does it when braking, my first thought was anti-roll bar bushes because of the klonk when braking, if it still does it once I've changed them I thought maybe the top & bottom ball joints or the wish bone bushes, I didn't know if there was a common fault that someone could put their finger on rather than me having to change everything.

      Cheers

Will do, Cheers, I've got to get under there to change the ARB bushes so I'll check it all out, I thought I'd done my share of fixing cars but as everything is getting more expensive I'll have to give it a go myself.

          Thanks for the help.

This is my baby, with spinal problems this is easier to get in & out of plus there is plenty of room for the wheelchair when I need it, I really enjoy driving it as it is to me like driving around in an armchair.

Its quite often the hub bushes, where the shaft goes through the hub to the drive plate. Try it 4wd (in a straight line) over the same bit of road, if it goes quite, then its usually the bushes.

Its not really essential to fix it, as lng as its not so loose that grit can get past the seal. Really it depends how annoying the rattle is.

Thanks rodleach, I like it, it was a mates who no longer needed a big vehicle so I bought it off him, I needed something big to take the wheelchair & mobility scooter.

TonyN, I'll give that a go & let you know, is it an easy job to replace those bushes? or will I need to pay someone to do it

                  Cheers
