  • How to remove the speedo dial

I have just discovered that the speedo arm is not sitting on the pin correctly on the speedo and starts about 5mm upwards. Giving a speed of about 7-8 miles more than you are doing.

Is it just a matter that the arm has been put on slightly high, when the face was changed and just needs to be reset

Reading past threads it mentions that it should just pull off, using a fork to pull it up. Is this correct?

Any advise on removing this greatly appreciated before I end up breaking it.

What i did was use two spoons.

one each side of the dial an just pull them back.

should just pop off. Take it very slow!

Also, Check the new dial has a hole for the speedo arm rest.

If not you gotta either drill one or if they are the electric ones glue the dial on!

        Thanks Mate,

But before changing the speedo face, I have noticed that the arm does not rest on the pin sticking out at 0. Is it just a matter of lifting up the arm and putting it back on again?

          Yeah, pretty much.

It should rest on 0. It should be fairly easy to move it around when its not connected.

Are you doing anything to the rev counter?!

Or is this just a change to mph?

            Not touching the rev counter.

The problem started where the speedo stopped working completely. So bought another one from breakers and it is this one that is stuck on 5 MPH when not moving. It works fine when driving, but is always 5 PMH higher than the actual speed.

I was going to swap the previous speedo face as it had both MPH and KPM, but will not do this until I can reset the pin to 0. May even send back to breakers if not working correctly.

If it turns out to be no good mate,

Give Stormforce or supersurf a message.

They both do breakers an will be able to sort you out!!

Thanks for that I might just do that if I can not get this working.

Is the connection from the speedo arm to the speedo just a straight arm with grooves on it and I just need to lift it up and put it back a few notches, or is it more complicated?

As I can not seem to lift the arm up?

I dont think its very complicated.

I dont even remember seeing any grooves. More relying on a tight fight.

Do you know what year the truck was that the speedo came out of?!

If its an early 2.4 then its cable driven an wont work full stop. If its a later 2.4 then i dont know how compatable they are.

If its out of a 3.0ltr then it should be ok.

I wonder if someone glued the dial down?!

                    Thanks,

It as a 1994 3.0TD. Same part number speedo as the one I took out.

popeye and myself had this very trouble putting plasma dials on mine, remove the dials, get clear plastic off, take needle off(was at this point i found out mine had been glued on by someone else lolol)but at this point, plug dials back in,and carefully place needle on,not to tight, and check it goes to zero,on push on hard when u know it's right

Your speedo is electronic, so the ignition needs to be on before re-fitting the needle at zero. (resting on the stop pin)

                            Thanks Chaps,

Fingers crossed and I will give it a ago this evening.

Does anybody have a spare out there in case it goes wrong?

Is it easy to reset the mileage from the new one to the same as the old one, or is it best to just leave alone?

                              TBELT light on

change speedo and all working fine, but the T-BELT light has come on. Is this being taken from the new speedo and therefore mine if not needed yet as it was changed 60K miles ago and 3 years? I was uner the impression that the belt was changed every 100K miles (150 KM)

Can anybody advise how to reset this light?

Or is this pointing to nother problem?
