  • Adjusting auto box gear changes?

I was wondering if there was any way to adjust the auto box so that it changes up a gear at lower speeds, is there a speed govenor? Or can it be adjusted so that you need to push the accelerator peddle down further before it drops down a gear?

Basically, there is a long sustained steep hill on my drive home from work. The truck will make it up the hill in lock up top (if i dont put my foot down too far), but the speed drops from 70 to 60. It's got the torque to accelerate up the hill in lock-up-top, but I can't put my foot further down than half way before it decides to drop down to third and shoot the revs right up to 4000 where it won't accelerate much. It's just annoying!

Any help much appreciate - tried searching on the forum, but couldn't find anything to such a specific query.

    Cheers

The gear changes are electronically controlled via the ECU based on inputs from the engine and speed sensors on the transmission. So I guess it'll be difficult to alter the settings.

Have you tried switching the O/Drive off?

You can force the box to stay in lockup overdrive. I fitted a switch to mine as a precursor to me developing a full manual control of the box as a winter project this year. If the truck does slow, selecting OD OFF then drops to top gear and lockup.

there should be a thread in 'modifications' somewhere.

you may find this of interest, the gearbox is similar to the soarer so the mod should work ok,

        and all for around £200.00.

          Kind of like tiptronic.
I have that on my Celica it's like driving in a Playstation game in 'manual' mode.

Mine's gonna cost about a tenner, will feature a digital display of the gear you're in, and will do exactly what I want
