  • Lost overdrive and ETC control

Did about 40 miles this morning with no problems, to my sainted parents, when I left, I had no overdrive, and the ETC switch had no effect. I think it was in power mode, cos it was changing up at about 3.5k revs. but no light on the dash..
(Also, if someone could arrange for me to have just one day with nothing breaking, I would be grateful...)

Yarp. I must admit I haven't checked every single connection, cos I got a bit irritable. I was hoping someone could suggest a good place to start...

Had the clocks out, Everything is ok there. Even checked the bulb for the ETC and all is well. except I still have no overdrive and no ETC control. any more ideas?? Where is the ETC control box, and will a 2.4 control be of any use, cos I have one of those from the breaker (shame I cant remember where I took it out from...)

start from the button charlie. split the handle and check its operation there, with a meter, check for a dry joint or a broken control wire.work your way down to the gearbox ecu, best place to start is always at the beggining.
            Non intercooled nothing.

The OD button on the stick is working cos the OD light on the dash goes on and off properly, it's just that the box is taking no notice. I swapped the ECT switch for the one on the old truck, made no difference. Had a good root about underneath, and it all looks fine...
This might sound silly, but how do I test the wiring if I have no idea whether the readings I'm getting are right or not?

The Oz site reckoned this was the ECU so I have changed it. (thank you Stormforce) and I now have proper shifts all the way up. Yay! Still no ECT control though.... Is there a separate box to control this?

I might be wrong Charlie, but I think there's a little unit somewhere underneath the centre console, around the front of the gearstick area which is something to do with the ECT. I may be wrong though.

Ah. I did wonder whether they would have altered things for the 3.0L.

My 3.0L ECU controls gearbox, engine and ECT. The ECT switch is 'normally open', ie if a wire is off, it will be 'ECT off'

Do you definitely get overdrive? Are you mistaking the lack of overdrive for the box being ECT on? You can test the solenoids manually by applying 12v to them at the ECU connector. All the info is on Matt's site, though I cant remember the link off the top of my head.

Cool, I will go mooching around over there. deffo lost the over drive before, and a real harsh change up at 3.5k revs. New ecu and the change is smooth and in the right place, and kicks down when I turned the OD off. tried the ect switch off the other truck and it's not that....
