does anyone know how much play there should be in the drive shft at the drivers side as it enters the front diff.

Do you mean the big flange on the diff
this has been discussed before a few times, as i noticed it on my truck
then someone had a look at brand new trucks Hilux and noticed play on them!
so we decided no problem!Landcruiser Colorado

I'm really really grateful for all your help, i've now found out that it could be the brass bushes on the half shaft ends. I've ordered them from Milner and am fitting them on Friday. Will let you know if it's a success. Really fed up of the rattling, fingers crossed.

yep did mean the big flange on the diff. Thats a relief to know that its normal. It was a rattling noise that brought it to my attention, I've since discovered that its the brass bushes on the half shaft ends that are worn.
