  • EGR, where to block it off?

    I have a 2nd Gen 3.0ltD.
I have seen pictures of where to block off the EGR on a 2.4.
But I dont know where to block off on a 3.0lt.
Has anybody got a picture, diagram or details of how to do it?
    Thanks

    G'day
I take it from all the views but no replys that no one has
    yet done a EGR mod on a Gen 2 3.0lt D?
I'll try to work it out myself, if I have any luck I will post results.

its the can type valve with egr writen on the top ( a )
cut the vacume hose ( b ) between the the top connector and the plastic filter ( c ) and then jam a piece of 4 or 5mm bolt shaft about 15mm long in the two peices to join them back to gether and the hose is bloked and it will be a tidy job and won't look messed with.

sorry, i cant get the picture any better iv'e been messing with it now longer than it takes to do the job"

            EGR valve jammed open

The only problem you may find is if the EGR valve may be jammed open. The vacuum tube opens it when it is shut. Blocking the tube stops it being opened, but if its always open this mod wont help.
I recently had to replace my exhaust manifold as it was cracked. I got one off a Prado and the point where the metal EGR tube joins the exhaust manifold was closed off on the madifold. You could see where the hole would be drilled but there was no hole. I guess Prados gave up on EGR valves.

In the end I removed the egr pipe that runs round the back of the block, the fat 2 cm diameter one. I disconnected it from the EGR valve body and put a blanking plate (piece of drinks can) in between the EGR body and the throttle body inlet manifold. Effectively stopping any air coming in to the inlet. Bit of a pig getting the pipe off but seems to be all OK. There have been a few threads talking about putting EGR blanking plates in. One between the exhaust manifold and the EGR pipe and one at the EGR valve end between the EGR pipe and the EGR pipe. This seems the best solution but its a knuckle skinning job, the bolts on the end of the manifold where it joins the egr pipe are the mare, get a mechanic to do this bit, I did and we no longer talk but the job is done!
Having said all that it might just be better to replace the egr valve and block the vacuum tube instead as someone suggested before I started waffling!

i know where your coming from, i'v done the same blank plate on a few other motors with the egr sticking open, i did a 2lt petrol ford a few years ago and the egr and all the gubbins took up most of the space on the bulkhead and tubes and pipes from the back to the front of the engin.
