  • KZN130 just stopped

    HI

Hope someone can give us an idea what is wrong. After off roading in 4 wheel drive and then a couple of miles on normal roads in 2 wheel drive the car just cut out and would not start again for about 2 hours. We managed to get it home but it will not start again now and when it does just cuts out again whether in gear or park. No smoke and not overheating. Have had the fuel pump refurbished after a leak in January. 3/4 tank of fuel. The engine warning light goes off once it does start but then comes on again as soon as it stops. Any one got a clue what is wrong?

Check the starter relay on the inner wing near the fuse box is working, or for loose connections.

Or Spill Control Valve on the EFI motors, its on the back of the pump, in the same place a Fuel Shut Off valve would go. Don't put 12v to it like you to test a fuel shut off valve, you'll fry it.

Have you pulled the fault codes yet? Should be first stop.

            HI

Thanks for all your replies so far. We are unable to get the fault codes as the dealer here will not touch a Jap import. Any ideas on how else we can get them?

There is a grey box under the bonnet labeled Diagnostics, pop the lid, short out the connections T1 and TE1 and then turn the ignition on, and count the flashes of the engine check light. The number of flashes relates to a fault code.

Then go here to check the codes....

OK have found the diagnostic box but we do not have a T1 it is as follows

                  Fp W E1 Ox1 AB Opt
                  CC0 Te1 Te2 CC2 Tc
                  +B Vf1 Vf2 Ox2 Ts Tt
                  Ig-

                  Hope that makes sense.

Sorry, my bad, it was late, should be E1 not T1.

                      Hi

We did the E1 Te1 test and that seemed to reset something although we did not get the flashes. The car has run really well since but today has the same problem. Have done the test again but the flashes are continuous. There is no break in them and no matter how long you leave it it just flashes.
                      Any ideas?

OK have found out that continuous flash means code 1 which is normal so no help there then.

                        Any more ideas please?

Oh just thought of something else, when we did the test the O/D OFF light was flashing. Do not know if this means anything but we did have a problem with the OD not working and changed the gearbox at the begining of this year and it has been fine ever since.

I found with mine, one time, that the OD Off light flashed with the diagnostic ports bridged, when I forgot to remove the wire before I started the engine. Wasn't a problem though - stopped as soon as I removed the bridging wire.
