  • Leaky rear diff

    Hi all
Had a look at my truck the other day and noticed that the diff oil is leaking from the seal some were in the rear drum break, i was just wondering is replacing this seal a do it yourself jod or is it specialised, and also which seal would i need to buy, i had a look at milneroffroad web site and assume its the half shaft inner and outer seal that i need....does anyone know if that is correct.

any hints or tips about doing this job would be greatfull.

Oh not sure if it makes any difference but its the 3rd gen model (faster, better looking more robust type)

Check out this thread, including the link to the aus site

Looks like its a common 3rd gen problem. If you use the search button youll probably find more threads

I think the only kicking going on will be us tractor owners, kicking our legs in the air as we roll on our backs, dying of laughter

At the risk of spoiling everyones fun, the rear bearings and seal are identical 1st, 2nd OR 3rd gen, even the pickups.

The only reason its a reacurring problem on the 3rd Gens, is because people don't get the retaining ring in the right place. On the earlier trucks, it gets pushed on tight to the bearing, but on the 3rd gens, because of the ABS rings and the relocated seal in the axle, if you knock the ring right up tight, the seal runs right on the end of the ring and leaks after short period.
