auto box clunk

  • auto box clunk

    after a 100 mile trip when i put the truck in to reverse it seemed to clunk into place then the same when i put it into drive,any ideas what could be wrong.it drives fine its just when selecting those two gears.

    Check the transmission fluid level first.
    It should be the colour of red wine not brown and dark, and the level is checked with the engine running.
    If it's dark brown or smells burnt, it will need replacing.

                not that i have noticed mark,i only noticed it today after coming back from
                spiers house camp site,but i came back via sutton bank and had to drop it down into low as the brakes were a bit warm.

                    no have you got to grease them as well .i haven't for a while next job on my list:: ,but when i get under the truck and someone plays on with the gears you can
                    see movement from the box is this normal.

                      Sounds like your prop shafts mate like Marky said. Mine does it after a while. It's usually the rear prop. Give the props a good greasing, especially the sliders. Then try it.
