People on here seem to prefer to carefully solder the rads rather than using radweld as it doesn't get pumped round the rest of the cooling system and through the block as radweld does. Reminds me i must go check mine, i noticed signs of a minute leak last weekend but didn't have time to do anything about it.=========

Mine had a slight leak for a while. Fixed it with liquid metal as a temp repair - so I thought.
When it give way I didn't realise until it was too late and I ended up needing a new head.
I would order a new rad and replace leaking one asap. While the rad is out flush the cooling system out thoroughly, replace rad cap & thermostat at the same time. When refilling the system take your time and search all the threads on here first for hints on avoiding / removing air locks.
Hope all is fine when done
roughtrax seem to have a good name for parts. http://www.toyotahilux.com/My other cars a QUAD

It's removed from the top, but you'll need to remove the bashplate to get at the bottom hoses.
Don't forget to insert something into or clamp the ends of the transmission cooler hoses when you pull them off the rad or the fluid will be lost.
I bought a new rad from Roughtrax last tuesday and they are top quality.

thanks how much was the rad ? is it the automatic trans oil that flows through the rad or the coolant runs through the trans too,i know it sounds thick lol but ive never had an auto,im already suffering from lazy foot syndrome,i walk round in circles every time i get out the thing,i just dont want any mistakes through ignorance, thanks vince,si.

The transmission fluid circulates through the bottom tank of the rad in a seperate tube.
Top tip: Get yourself some good quality hose clips as the originals don't clamp up as tight when re-fitted.
4 for the top and botton rad hoses, and 2 for the transmission cooler hoses.

replacing the rad is quite an easy job, i gave myself a day to do it and i was twidling my thumbs by 10.30am, the rad sits on hangers so you can remove the bolts and lift it out quite easily when your comfortable, just be careful you don't mash up the core on the new one when you slide it down. a milk crate or steps of simulare height are very usefull.
i gave my new one a blast through with the hosepipe just to make sure it was cleare of any kind of particles because the hose holes wern't caped off.
i wouldn't recomend rad seal of any kind but if you are really in the sh12, wynns rad seal, is better than rad weld, rad weld is kagmag.Last edited by davemaxx; 13 May 2007, 15:58.
