Should have at least 2 cuts to get thatcham approval. One in the ignition circuit, that's the one you described. And at least one of either fuel pump, starter motor or something else but i can't think what & the cuts shouldn't all be in the same place
on my old one they were all together, and my new one is a cat 1
The function list is vast, so i'll include the main features:-
Central Locking Control (If already fitted. May require additional door motor)
Engine Immobiliser (single circuit)
2 remote controls (4 button- arm/disarm, silent arm/disram, panic, remote boot release (requires additional solenoid))
Doors, Boot and Bonnet protected
Ultrasonic sensors for window protection (excludable for convertable cars)
Indicator Flash
Full System Diagnostics and trigger memory
Automatic re-arming
Auto Lock/Unlock
Electronic Emergency Disarm
Anti Hi-Jack (Optional)
Fault Detection on Arming
Shock Sensor (If required although generally not used to minimise false alarms)
Thanks Guys - all hints and tips gratefully received - waiting for daylight tomorrow now then we can get a better look at things.
"Flippin" cold now - want this toy fixed so I can go and play if it snows....hehe.
Someone else is itching to go and nick the keys if the white stuff falls too. Could be marital disharmony if I dont want to share MY CAR!!
Want to see if this Auto engine will do what the Disco used to.
Bit sick really as just getting used to the luxury of lazy driving and now I've gone and broke it. We shall see what tomorrow brings though and will let you know what happens or will scream for more help.
Regards to all Jan.
If it's just stopped, then I'd say its electrical ( rather that fuel, if no fuel then probably elec fault on/to fuel pump) so you may find the AA/RAC may be able to pinpoint fault, or get a mobile auto electrician to look at it.
Good luck, keep us informed, it would be nice to find out the diagnosis.
UPDATE: Changed fuel filter as daylight showed us it was leaking at bottom.
Cranked over and NO JOY.
Behind and down below power steering fluid reservoir is what we think is fuel pump.....it has a pipe running from fuel filter to this... on top of fuel pump is a two wire plug that fits into something screwed into top of pump Could this be a sensor /cut off valve of some sort??????
Also when turning ignition on should you be able to get a power reading from the positive feed to the Glow plugs through an electrical screwdriver with light in end that is earthed?????
(Bet you can all tell that this was told to me>>>) (But I was looking at all the gubbins and following lines etc)
Posted 16th March[QUOTE=paul.njan] Surf 3ltr. Used last on Tues eve. Went out to start it just now and it wont... etc etc....
Sniff, sob, sulk...
My Surf has just been taken away on the back of a breakdown truck... I didn't realise how much she has crept into my heart - soppy or what...(Never felt like that about the Disco)
It just aint right seeing them up on the back of a wagon.
We did everthing you all suggested and more and still nothing - so Auto electric Guy from my usual Garage came out and tested alsorts and tried to bypass alsorts of things, tried heating glow plugs so we could get her started and still nothing - so she has gone to the garage where he has all his equipment and he can get a real good look at her.
Oh my God.....
Just got a call from garage - all of a particular wire from ECU are not supplying power...
Garage says I need someone who knows these vehicles to take a look as they can't do anything else now.
I need someone who can check the ECU without ripping me off for a fortune
Does anybody know anyone in South West Scotland who may be able to Help???????

There's a relay in the engine bay fuse box for the ECU, marked as ECD Relay.
and there's a fuse in the fuse box by the throttle pedal.
Ta Vince..
Just passed your info on and waited for call back
results are
Fuse at pedals a-OK. ECD relay tests ok and when back in vehicle has power out of it....
2 wires to switches on injection fuel pump and also glow plug relay not got any power all on them - plenty of live going into ECU
Many Thanks Neil/Sledge....
Phoned Mechanic and he is going online tonight to download all he needs and then it is a case of fingers (and everything else) crossed then wait for this sick feeling to disappear.....
I was just getting her all pretty too - my Hubby just went and got me a roof rack with more spots on it and it looks the bees knees.
