4WD Light flashing when in 2WD

HELP!

We tried to get our N reg 3.0 Surf into 4WD it wouldn't go but the 4WD light on the dash is flashing even though we are in 2WD drive and there is a clicking coming from under the Surf.

We have been told it could be the Relay at the back of the gear box but we cant find a garage that can get one or a diagram of the gear box 3.0litre can anyone help please

Apparently I need a picture of the outside of the gear box, anyone have an idea where i can find one for the 3.0?
