  • Starter Motor Question

    Hi there:

Does anybody know whether there's any difference between the starter motor in the manual 3 litre turbo diesel and the auto?

I've just bought myself an L-reg 3.0 litre Turbo Diesel Manual, and quite promptly afterwards the starter motor blew up, so now I'm deciding whether to get it fixed or a buy one secondhand, and need to know how specific I have to be in my search!

Anybody know? The information would be much appreciated.

Hi mate - I'm up near Bodmin. Can't believe I've owned the old girl just one day; bought it Thursday night, Friday morning it went - haha! Still, there are always teething problems!

        Hello Duck.
When you say the starter motor blew up, did it create a small mushroom cloud or is it just clicking?

was it a private sale then or from a garage?

Nope, blew up. Well, perhaps that's a slight exaggeration. It was getting a bit on the lazy side and then it just stopped (with smoke and everything); it's proper burnt out. Damn thing.

Private. I knew it was a bit lazy when I bought it (starter that is), just didn't expect it to go so quick! I'm not too bothered though; I got it at a good price, and otherwise it seems all sound and genuine. You owned yours long?
