  • IT WON't START !

sOMEONE MUST KNOW ,BEEN TO WORK AND DONE SOME RUNNING AROUND TODAY BUT THE BLASTED THING WOULD'NT LET ME GO HOME, WOULD'NT START. I TRIED THE PRIMER ON TOP OF THE FILTER , I COULD PUSH IT AFEW TIMES BUT AFTER THAT IT WENT HARD AS THOUGH THERE WAS A BLOCKAGE, OFF CAME THE PIPES , A FEW MORE PUMPS AND PLENTY OF DIESEL SPLURTING ABOUT , IS THERE A FILTER ON TOP OF THE INJECTOR PUMP THAT COULD BE BLOCKED ?

The primer is supposed to get hard after it has been pressed several times
when were the filters all changed and you may also have air in the injectors

er , FILTERS? HOW MANY AND WHERE ? FUEL FILTER HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED FOR 18 MONTHS , MAYBE LONGER ! DOES THE PRIMER NOT ALLOW FUEL TO BE PUMPED THROUGH THE INJECTOR PUMPAND BACK THROUGH THE RETURN LINES AS ON OTHER DIESELS?

as far as i know when i have changed the fuel filter i have filled it with redex and then put it back on then just pressed the primer a few times just to make sure that its full and turn the key and away i went

i would definately get the fuel filter changed and fill it up with redex b4 you refit it and then drive like you stole it to give the injectors a clean thru too

If you still have plenty of life in the battery, try starting it with the throttle pedal down to the floor, don't pump the pedal, just hold it down while cranking the engine.
If that doesn't work, loosen the fuel pipes on the injectors and crank the engine over until fuel can be seen spurting then re-tighten pipes.

Still can't get the bugger to go seems to be an electrical fault , no engine check light and no glow plug light , i have checked all fuses and relays and pulled plugs on the injector pump , the whole lot apears to be dead with no voltage appearing on the plugs / sockets , does this point to a faulty ecu ?
which conection is the fuel cut off ? i get the feeling that if i could " hot wire " ie by-pass the ignition then at least i could get it home from work.

Ahem. You got an immobiliser installed?

Hi Mickeyboy , as far as i know there is no imobiliser fitted , car had been left stood about 3 hours after last run with the keys in the ignition but not turned on , although i did sit in to have a brew and a listen of the radio with the ignition on fully cos it was hot and i had the door open with the sounder going with the keys in , but if you turn them the sounder goes off. i have checked all i can at the moment with a multimeter ,could do with a wiring diagram of the injector pump as there appears to be about six connections !

yes thanks for that , i aint that dumb!!!! the engine turns but wont start , have come to the conclusion that it doesent have a fuel cut off but a spill control valve instead and thats operated by the ecu or not as in my case !! .iwll try di-connecting the batteries tommorrow to see if it will reset , if i can get it home i can put all she stuf back on thats been pulled out or just find the nearest crusher !!

All smiles again today !! For anybody that looked at this thread the problem turned out to be the ECU , so maybe if you have the same fault after checking all fuses and relays ( no glow heater light , no engine check light and the self diagnostics don't work either , ie no flashing of the check lamp ) save yourself some time and replace the ecu , i managed to get one locally for just under £100.00 but had been quoted as much as £205.00 . Hope this may be 0f some help to someone else in the future and thanks to everyone else who took the time to reply. A.T.B , Paul.
