Blanking off EGR at manifolds.

I am forced to be replacing the head gasket on my '94 Surf. While removing the inlet and exhaust manifolds I was wondering if it would be possible to make up 2 blanking plates, 1 for the exhaust and 1 for inlet manifold to enable me to remove the EGR system completly. Has anyone tried/done this, and what if any could be the adverse effects.

Thanks, but that only really explains about the blanking off mod on the vacuum hose (which I have already done), but I want to remove the re-circ. pipe completely from the engine and replace it with 2 blanking plates on the manifolds.
