  • Bubbling Rad (Fear the worst) HELP

Hi having bought my 3.0ltr surf in January everything seemed fine.Just got 12 months MOT thought this cant get any better. UNTIL NOW!!!

I need some help please. I have recently noticed water and what can only be desribed as a brown foam coming from the expansion tank from the Rad.

Initial thoughts oh no the head gasket. But before i spend a fortune on that i was wondering if it might be anything else.Perhaps something really silly.(heres me dreaming again)What are the most common checks for this. There is an awful lot of pressure.

Also if it does turn out to be the gasket does anyone know a good garage near newquay in cornwall that I could take it to

    Many thanks Jon

Hi cornish if you are stuck for a garage then try David at Trverbyn Motores Camborne 01209 718180 He is the only garage that i let do work on the surf as do a couple of other guys on here have used him aswell with a good report. He will let you supply your own parts and then fit for you.
Check and change the thermostat and rad cap and then burp the cooling system and make sure all heaters are on full and set to hot and see what happens there

        sounds familiar

I'v just bought a 94 3.0 and the dreaded brownish liquid is escaping from the expansion tank...but what is your temp gauge doing..mine stays in the middle indicating a norm operating temp...I'v had three previous cars blow their head gaskets and you usually get an considerable increase in engine temp.

          hi cornish

i live in newquay and got the head changed on my surf by daz at mountwise garage near the newquay football club. it took him about 5 hrs - he seems to be a very dillegent and carfell mechanic, he also has the combustion gas test kit to tell you if your head has really gone or not. test shows it up instantly
          problems? i'll take 'em.

Cheers for all your help I will go and see daz tomorrow and see what he can do for me.
The answer to Vultch is that my temperature gauge stayed in the middle also mate.
Lifes a bugger sometimes.Waited years to buy one and within no time at all this happens.
            Never mind won't swop it
            Cheers

                  hi mate

i got the head myself - ordered it from stevo - engine co. ltd - he has a banner ad at the top of this page/site

head came overnight, all shiny and new, got it delivered straight to daz

then he put it on that day, i drove home that afternoon. brilliant!

                  good luck with it all

                    thermostat

In my continuing quest to solve my temp problems i have bought a new thermostat and intend to flush out the cooling system and fit a new thermostat, but one arrived from Milner but there was no gasket, i know the housing is at the base of the engine but surely i need a new gasket to reassemble the thermostat housing... ??
