Not wishing to change the subject mid thread but...

I read up on your veg oil experiences through the link you gave to the model differences. I have been running on home made Biodiesel for the past 2 years and just started using the stuff in my Surf. So far so good. I am only using a mix of about 50 / 50 so was interested to see that you are mixing straight veg oil in the same ratio. It has got me thinking that maybe I can do the same and skip the chemicals and just wash and filter my WVO. Have you tried washing WVO and adding WVO to your brew?

I've never tried WVO so I'm not really qualified to comment, but I will anyway.
I'm assuming that as you've been brewing your own for some time, you've already got most of the info you need (to wash and filter etc). Washed and filtered WVO will certainly mix and burn fine in most diesels its just a question of ratio. The WVO will certainly be more viscous than the new oil, so I would be doubtful of obtaining the sort of ratios I have.
One reason I might be getting higher ratios then some others is my Surf has the winter pack fitted ie i've got a heated fuel filter.
I've run up to approx 80 to 90% briefly and regularly at 70 to 75%, I've no idea if higher ratios would cause me any trouble as I've not tried it any higher, don't want to push my luck too far, but in over 2 years of mixing in SVO I've never had as much as a hiccup because of it.

Its a case of try it and see, its hard to comment as it will vary with the quality of your WVO, the thicker it is the less you'll be able to use.
You could always try a blend of Biodiesel from WVO and WVO itself.
As usual start with lower ratios, say 20% and work your way up.

Using the info Rob provided, I've been looking thru the EPC (I was already trying to define model codes for www.hiluxsurf.eu, his timing is perfect )
What he posted appears bang-on for the 3rd Gens, with the addition of a final letter option of 'Y' to cover Common Rail Diesel engines (later 3rd Gens had the D4D engine)

The 2nd Gens appear slightly different, and 'Q' would seem to indicate an SSR-X, which matches perfectly with your profile.

Phew, hippo is a "Q" too, was getting worried then - but I have to ask is the Wide/narrow/standard body classification also different ? Hippo has the wide flares etc but is flagged as a "standard" or "K"

I would like to know this as wqell as i am after a wide body gen 2 & want to make sure. Unless there is an easier way of telling if its a wide body or not. Anyone????

So called wide body is the wheel arch extentions, that all.

Note that the first pic is a pre-91' truck, and are all 'narrow bodys' later trucks are flush head light and one piece front bumper, this type you can get in narrow or wide body.
