  • What model have I got?

    I am not sure whether I have the bottom of the range or middle of the range Surf. I have aircon, power sunshine roof, spare wheel under the vehicle. Heater settings are sliding type rather than push button. I have a spoiler on the back with a brake light in (but no drop down mirror). No compass or any other gismos in the roof..What does this sound like? I was really after a vehicle with the spare out of the way because I am forever putting the dog in the back of the car... so I am not too worried about the model - just curious.

    Thanks, Jim

      I have twin batteries too..

      Since posting this thread I have noticed a list of similar threads on the page. I did search for this question but didn't find the related threads so sorry for the repost..

      I think someone is going to tell me the a lower model can have optional extras which take it up to a higher model

          You've probably got a 'friday afternoon' Surf. Whatever was left in the options bin at the end of the shift.

            So how does mine compare - is it comparable with the basic model or does it look like a Ltd or something like that?

              My 2nd Gen has a badge with LTD on the back and it's level (SSR-X) - does yours not have something similar ?

                I have no badges at all. I don't even have the registration document as I only bought it a week ago so DVLA are processing it. So no clues

                    Trim specs

                    Its impossible to say what it looks like as we have never been able to pin down exactly what option each trim spec should have in a given year.
                    I'm not sure if the LTD was used on the 3rd Gens but even on the 2nd gens it doesn't mean a lot as it could follow SSR, SSR-V or SSR-X.

                    What is reasonably certain is you don't have an SSR-G due to lack of a drop down mirror or rear wheel carrier, although of course these could possibly have been removed at the original owners request, doubtful but possible.
                    Your sunroof is probably an extra, AFAIK no 96's had one as standard.
                    Rear heater means little, standard on SSR-G or any model with the winter pack and frequently fitted to others as an option too.
                    Rear belts should be in all models regardless of spec.

                        Sounds like an SSR-X to me..

                        What's your Model Number from the plate on the bulkhead in the engine bay?

                        Mine's KZN185W-GAPGT

                        The second to last letter is the trim level - that's G. So mines an SSR-G.

                        Edit...
                        Bit more of an example

                        Eg *-GAPGT

                        G= Station wagon
                        A= Wide Body (can also be K= Standard / narrow body - generally refers to the plastic wheel arch extensions)
                        P= 4-speed automatic transmission (can also be M= 5-speed manual transmission)
                        G= SSR-G Trim (can also be S= SSR, V= SSR-V, X= SSR-X)
                        T= Turbo Diesel EFI (can also be H= Turbo Diesel Intercooler, K= petrol EFI)

                        PS: Morr - Yes, there were definitely SSR-X Limited 3rd gens - I've seen several.

                          Interesting stuff...

                          According to the plate on my bulkhead the model number is KZN185W-GAPVT

                          I suppose that makes mine a SSR V

                          Excellent - looks like we have the answer. Is there anything else that this number tells me?

                              Not wishing to change the subject mid thread but...

                              I read up on your veg oil experiences through the link you gave to the model differences. I have been running on home made Biodiesel for the past 2 years and just started using the stuff in my Surf. So far so good. I am only using a mix of about 50 / 50 so was interested to see that you are mixing straight veg oil in the same ratio. It has got me thinking that maybe I can do the same and skip the chemicals and just wash and filter my WVO. Have you tried washing WVO and adding WVO to your brew?
