My 98 3.0td surf has recently encountered some problems the gearbox isnt seeming to do its job, it will be fine for about 20 mins the sitting at lights it will not budge even in drive, and after sitting there for about 10 mins revving the tits outta it, it will start 2 move very slowly and get stuck in first gear?????and eventually change up. Its my baby so i hope nothing is wrong with it . any thoughts?

It could be that the auto trans fluid...........

Needs topping up. check with engine running.

needs changing.........should be blood red in colour and not brown.

getting too hot.........try not to sit at the traffic lights with your foot on the brake and the 'box in drive, always in 'park' or 'neutral' if you're gonna be sat there for more than 30 seconds.

thanks alot for the advice, the fluid is sort of pink not blood red, ill change it asap. many thanks

oh dear, taking it to the garage today and lost all power, nothing. i have been told its a driveshaft, does any one know where i can get my hands on this part??
