  • whirring noise on my ssrg

hi, i have a 1996 3ltr td auto ssrg, when i back off the accellerator there is a whirring sound that definately isnt coming from the engine, could it be gearbox or diff noise ? is it normal ? what will it probably be ? hope the experts can help because i know very little about surfs at the moment, thanks

The u/js on the propshaft may need greasing.

On each end of the propshaft there are Universal joints. These are a kind of swivel joint that allow the propshaft to turn as the rear axel is moving up and down with suspention movements. You should be able to see small grease nipples on the U/Js and you'll need a grease gun to pump grease into them.

You'll find a 'how to' file here.....
