  • double sided tape problems...

Having removed my air deflector screen thingies from my windows, I am left with the remnants of double sided sealing tape, on the bodywork at the top of the windows.

I have tried petrol and paint brush cleaner to remove it and have resisted s****ing it with a razor, or ice remover, as I don't want to risk scratches.

Apart from spending most of the rest of my life rubbing it with my finger to peel it off, does anyone have a good suggestion ?

"sxxxxing" = skraping, deliberatly misspelt to get round the Forum Censor.

Try warming with a hair dryer and using previous methods or meths
          Should have bought a 3ltr

Agreed, plus get some proper glue remover. I think Halfords do it.

Thanks for the good suggestions, much appreciated.

I will try the hot water and glue remover ideas, when the blisters on both my index fingers go down.

A word of warning.......a hair dryer on this stuff makes it VERY HOT.
Also, its not a good idea after you have burnt one finger, to test for heat with the other finger. (insert crying, contemplating plastic surgery, smilie here)

I have just dealt with this problem. Mask off anything else you hold sacred, cover your eyes and squirt with carb cleaner (the sticky stuff - not your eyes). It softens it enough to remove it using a plastic card (I collect those fake credit cards that Bank Of Scotland send to tempt me). Another squirt with carb cleaner and polish off with a dry cloth. It also works for removing the glue left after removing decals with a hot air gun.

Those fake plastic credit cards also make great filler spreaders for small areas.
                It's only a hobby!

you can get a round rubber that you put into a drill which can buff the tape and glue off

An old bath towel and wd40 or white spirit and plenty of elbow grease are the only safe way to remove the adhesive. Follow up with a wash and wax polish (mer or auto glym). Happy scrubbing.

Ferret has got the right idea- i have just done this with 3M pink wheel. Goes in drill and takes all off in seconds. Any good bodyshop can supply.

STICKY STUFF REMOVER from the Kleeneze catalogues that come through your door. (useful to have around the house / garage anyway)
