timing belt light comes on at 50,000 is this right

Hello, Bit of advice needed, I have had my 96 gen 3 surf for a year now and have managed to hit the 50,000, I bought the car with 43,000 on the clock from a dealer with a full service and new timing belt. Can somebody please put me staight on this, I thought the light only comes on at 60,000,
Also I have never changed a cam belt before, where can i get any reference on this procedure.

hi have you tried a search on timing belt light you will find a few post that should help you out

thanks for the quick reply had a look earlier will look again now seen a few items on timing lights switching on at 60k was wasnt sure. I think the dealer has pulled a fast one.

the belt might of been changed and the light has come on when it was meant too and just needs to be reset

Yup, it'll only come on at 100,000 on the clock or 100k from when it was last pressed, I can't see how it can come on at 50,000 unless the belt was changed at 50,000 in the past and the car is now on 150,000.
