• is 3.0 better buy than 2.4

hi this is my first post and i'm after some advice as too which surf would be the better one to go for a 1993 K Reg TOYOTA HILUX SURF 2.5 SSR-X TD or a 1993 TOYOTA HILUX SURF 3.0TD. there is a few thou difference is price so for a car of the same age would they be any benefits in going for the 3rd gen (i think) 3.0

any advice would be greatly appreciated

ps would removing the surf decals be hard to do and would it leave a slight imprint behind

thanks again andy
what if the hokey-cokey really is what its all about!?!

Go 3.0 if you can afford to. They have more power and are nippier. 2.4's are more prone to cracked heads due to a design fault if they overheat.

thanks linda that was one of the things i'd kinda picked up on from reading threads, i'm sure its not certain to happen on the 2.4 but i would like to avoid the possibilty of it happening to me if i can.

the 3.0 is going for £6995 and the 2.4 is £3995 that seems a big difference for a car of about the same age even taking into account for mileage and such!

thanks

The price for the 2.4 is good, providing the head has been replaced with a modified one and has paperwork to back it up.. If it has, then you'll have no more worries.

The price difference shows you how much better the 3.0 is. Although, perfectly nice 3.0's can be had for £5500+ The 2.4 is over priced as well IMHO.

£7000 will get you a good 3rd gen.

Go for a 3.0 - a much better engine and much much nicer to drive (I know cos I have owned both)

7k for a 1993!!!?!!?? is it gold plated or something?

I got my 1995 3.0 for less than 5k (private sale).

Burt Reynolds

HI BURT I AM NEW TO SITE ASWELL. I BOUGHT A 3.0L TD IN FEBUARY MY FIRST SURF. AFTER SHOPPING AROUND FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS I FINALY DECIDED ON 3.0L BECAUSE OF THE BAD THINGS I HEARD ABOUT THE HEAD ON 2.4L. I BOUGHT IT PRIVATE AND SAVED MYSELF A FEW GRAND. THE 3.0L AS LOADS OF POWER WITH NO PROBLEM TOWING. ONLY DRAW BACK IS IT ONLY DOES ABOUT 20 MPG. BUT THIS DOES NOT CHANGE WHEN TOWING BECAUSE OF THE POWER WHICH IS GOOD. THEY ARE ALSO QUITE QUICK ASWELL MINE WILL GO FROM 30 TO 70 IN SECONDS IN 5th TOP SPEED 110 NEEDLE OF THE CLOCK (WELL YOU HAVE TO SEE WHAT ANY NEW CAR WILL DO DON'T YOU) . DON'T GO TO FAST ROUND SHARP BENDS UNTIL YOU GET USED TO IT BACK END TENDS TO SLIDE OUT AT NOTHING ESPECIALY ON WET AND BETTER DRIVING ON SOFT SUSPENSION MORE GRIP A BIT SICKLY AT START BUT YOU GET USED TO IT.WHEN DRIVEING ON HARD YOU FEEL EVERY BUMP I ONLY USE HARD FOR TOWING. WHEN I 1st GOT IT I WENT TO AN HORSE SHOW AND ENDED UP TOWING A DISCOVERY WITH HORSE TRAILER HITCHED UP WITH 2 HORSES IN IT OUT OF APPROX 10 INCHES OF MUD SO THIS SHOWS HOW GOOD THEY ARE HOPE THIS HELPS. MARK......................

A good bit of advice regarding MPG, make sure your injectors are clean and performing as they should. I get between 25-30 mpg and allways get above 340 miles from a tank of diesel.

I fail to understand why you find " liverpool victoria specialise in imports" when they couldn't quote for my vehicle...(well, theyr'e subsidiary Frizzell was ) F said it wasnt in their database...funnily enough neither was my land rover pick up (in their database).....went to adrian flux /highway no bother there, or tesco for that matter...
Just an observation, have others had quote from LV ?

I have been insured with Liverpool Victoria for over a year - had my old surf with them and now my new one. You must have had the "computer says no..." woman when you called up

hi there good point. i see you drive a 3L like me. it could be your CC that let you down you see 3L does not necceserely mean 3L. mine is something like 2982CC they also do 2980 2984 and so on some insurance companies will only insure certain one's. tesco's for me was over £800 nether heard of adrian flux.
hope this helps for future quote's
