first question do surfs share their 3ltr td engine with the land cruiser prado? took my mate with a jap import prado off roading for his first time today and may have killed his alternator with a bit too much mud. anybody know any good repair places in the adlestone/heathrow area if it is terminal?
    Diesel, like petrol only better

i think the prado and the 3ltr surf have the same engine, can't help with the alternator though..roughtrax and milner off road might be a starting point, as i think they do recon exchanges for that motor?

tell him to get on the dog an bone to the jap spares places...your lookin for a rectifier -non service item therefore new replacement - possibly couple of brushes (brush pack) and maybe one or both bearings (if your really unlucky) Its a Nippondenso generator IIRC but you'll need the model no off the label on the side of the old one...If your feeling guilty about your mate's car, its a DIY fix...Alternative - new alternator - dont think they do exchanges - well not here in "the sticks " anyhow Gud Luk...

the batt light on the dash could be due to a loose connection to the alternator. this happened to me once and all i did was push the cables going into the alternator in.
