    Hey all...advice please...

My rad developed a leak...and I've repaired it(I think), I have fitted a new rad cap but now when idling the temp goes up and the water in the expansion bottle bubbles and has become dirty...it also froth's up and out of the overflow like a coffee colour...(??????) please ??

If i'm driving around the temp gauge stays put but as soon as I stop and leave it idle, away she goes again...
I thought maybe head/gasket...but I have no water in the oil or no steam or smoke from the exhaust when driving....(????????)

All help and advice greatly appreciated....Thanx all.

Hey Vince hows tings...No M8...I didn't...funny enough I have just finished a conversation with a M8 of mine and he said the same, it may be the thermostat is naff and sticking......he advised maybe flushing the coolant system and removing the thermostat...then refilling with clean water and fresh anti-freeze and maybe dropping in a bottle of forte stop leak.....see what comes of that.

so i will be popping in the local spares shop tomorrow to get said forte... But the question is does this type of problem sound like the dreaded head/gasket..????

another dumbass question...any pics of where the thermostat is on my 3.0L..???
I've tried the search but haven't found it...

Could also be your viscous cooling fan not working properly and not cutting in when there's no air moving through the rad core. Should have attached details of how to repair it (I hope) if it's not working properly and most of them don't unless they are looked after every couple of years or so as the oil leaks out.

Sorry file type's wrong so won't upload. I'll see if I can find the link to the original site.

Heres some photos of the 2.4 that might point you in the right direction.

Hiya matey, My thermostat is in the housing under the rad cap, held on by three bolts. I dunno what the 3.0 looks like so can't help any further.

mine looks slightly different but I think the principal is the same...my rad filler cap is on top of the rad but the top hose goes down to a small housing on the side of the engine....so will have a decent goosey 2morro mornin...cheers fella...

thermostat on a 2nd gen 3.0 TD is on left hand side of engine (drivers side)(when looking at engine front front).
follow the coolant hose from lower left of rad (drivers side), to metal pipe where it joins engine - 3 bolts to undo.
