    Hi guys & gals

Thanks to this forum I have decided to sell my trusty pajero and have bought a surf.

    I now know (thanks to the forum) that it's a gen3 3.0 diesel SSR-G

I pick it up on Tuesday and wondered if there is anything I should be careful about.

I have checked it over, got a jap auction sheet & verifies the mileage (45km's). It's got the original stereo with a band expander fitted. Wooden trim on dash and all the gadgets work.

I have checked out the 4 wheel drive and that seems OK too

I suppose the only thing I am slightly concerned about is that I tow a caravan - how will it tow compared to my 2.5 pajero (which tows Ok until you get to a hill)

Just want any views on things to do/not to do

    Aloha Alan, welcome to surfdom.
The only thing you'll need is some badages and bandaids 'cos you'll need them from kicking yourself for not buying a Surf sooner.
and as for towing capability, you got no worries there.

      Hi Hawaii,

You will find lots of caravanners on here and they all agree that the Surf tows well, I have just come back from France having towed the van down to the Vendee and back, probably about 600 -700 miles and my Gen 3 averaged around 25 mph towing at a steady 60 and that includes a fair few hills!!

Have a look at this thread for a bit of reassurance.

Just be careful about being all smug when you meet a pajero owner. As an ex paj owner dont allow yourself to get all pompous with the paj owner. You know the kind of thing, bit like an ex smoker, blah blah, I gave up Pajeros years ago, cant stand the smell of second hand paj nowadays, blah blah, found it easy to give up, just went and bought a Surf etc etc. They will then hate you, they will all want Surfs, and us Surf owners will have one group less to feel slient pity for.

Thanks guys - you have confirmed what I thought.

Musn't be too hard on the paj tho, I ran her for 3 years and she never let me down (I towed with her to France twice & Spain once with no probs - apart from the lack of grunt)

          Just another newbie question - whats the difference between a KZN130 & a KZN185?

Mine has the 3.0 turbo diesel with intercooler - which one is it?

          cheers

The difference is the intercooler - some extra ponies and more torque. You therefore have a KZN185.

            Welcome to the loony bin...

              Cheers captain

As with the paj owners club - you all seem to know what you are talking about (you do, don't you)

Ordered workshop & owners manuals and star stickers today and can't wait until Tuesday

Sorry pal - I didn't import it myself. The dealer where I got it from deals direst with the auction house in Japan and it's their policy to let the buyer have all documentation.
When I collected the car there was a full jap service history, jap owners handbook & a couple of matchbools from a bar in Tokoyo.

Still mega pleased with the surf , just need a set of roof bars to fit as I have something called T tracks fitted anyone got any ideas
