Sorry folks, another surf virgin!!!!

Have just bought a 96 surf SSR G 3.0 td auto, and was wondering if any of you kind peeps could answer a few queries for me.

Firstly, I would like to change the stereo, which is a tad dated but wondered how on earth you get it out. Also there are four speaker housings but only two seem to work! Are the two in the back likely to contain anything, fitted originally as standard, or will I have to buy some more speakers?

Secondly I have some brake wobble, is this likely to be warped discs? Had new tyres fitted all round, which should illiminate wheel ballance issues, read on a thread regarding an older model that it could simply be siezed/sticky brake cylinders. Is this still a possibility on the newer model?

Wanted one of these surfs for ages, and have finally found one. Not at all dissappointed with it for the short period of time I've had it, and my german shephard and dobermann have certainly appreciated not having their noses pressed up aganst the rear window of a Renault Megane!!!

1. a piston sticking
2. warped disc
3. Bearings??
5 Have you got rotational tyres [eg Yokohama Geolanders] and theyre on the wrong side? there will be arrows on the side walls to inform you

Could the "brake wobble" poss be the abs coming in, not at fault but maybe your initial dealings with stopping a heavier motor than your used to...any poss run out ie disc misalignment is easily checked with a dial guage in a mounting clamp, the other alternative, partially siezed cylinder can also easily be sorted (try first cleaning carefully around piston covers and then carefully squeezing each piston with a pistol grip clamp against the back of the caliper to see if it does move...dont go more that say 2 or 3mm so as to avoid displacing seals in wheel or master cylinder also check master cylinder fluid leve; which may rise. Sometimes advisable to crack open the fluid valve at the wheel in question to overcome back pressure. ( all above are alternatives as stated ) Hope you enjoy your car...

If yours is a 3rd Gen then then don't follow the above links. It is similar to 2nd Gen but only takes half the time on a 3rd Gen as all you need to do is remove the center bits around the stereo, heater, ashtray.
