Hi all, Im new on here and am looking for a Surf to buy shortly.

How many miles is a 3.0 good for, I have seen a 1995 Surf with 130,000kms (80m) on it, is this average or what?

Imports from Japan tend to be lower mileage than similar age UK cars. My 1990 2.4 had 65k miles on the clock when I bought it 3 years ago. It's now approaching 120k and going strong - used every day and regularly off roaded.

Linda's 3.0 is on 95,000 miles (not Km) and going still strong.

not running too badly... some crankcase pressure Tony says but nowt to worry about yet.

mines on 53000 miles... but dude... don't trust them robbing dealers!....

if it's a nice motor, runs well, get an AA/RAC check, BIMTA check... if it's all in order, buy it!

who cares what mileage it's got?... a well maintained motor is good for hundreds of thousands.

it's a good haggling point though!

Having just done a rebuild after a bodger played with mine I'm looking to get 250,000...yep 1/4 of a milion miles out of it..one of my other motors a volvo740 gle has 210,000 on the clock and is still good, except for a little wine from the box

I bought my 2.4 it had 55k on the clock and its now reading 136k and i've had it just under 2 years used for work evey day(not to work for work)the only time it's been off the road is for mods(lift/suspension etc).

Any wine left in that box ? I,ll have a glass please. Heard a rumour the other day that you could also get it in bottles but that cant be right can it? would need to be big ones.

There's a lot to be said for weighing up all the options....I looked at 12 motors / and various methods of "purchase" before deciding finally....It's a lot of money --so careful is the way to go.. PS I will be very unhappy if major work needed before 250 thou MILES !

my dads LandCruiser 4.2TD is on around 220000 MILES i think, just had some shims redone or something like that... not one bit of major work so far unless a new rad counts?
