  • Tailgate window.

    I'm not sure if glass windows come under the heading of "mechanical", but here goes.

    Helping out an aged neighbour, I placed an old wood burning stove in the back of my Surf, for a journey to the local Civic Waste Centre.
    On the way I was obliged to perform an emergency stop and the aforementioned wood burning stove fell against the tailgate window.
    (Notice how I am restraining my language).

    Within 24 hours Toyota at Ashford, Kent, had got me the required piece of glass, which cost me £339.55 incl VAT.

    The new glass is lightly tinted only, which is standard.
    The broken glass was a very dark tint, almost one way glass.

    My question is;
    Does anyone know where I can get a stick on tinted film (at a reasonable price), close to what I had before ?
    It would also be useful if it was relatively simple to put on.

    As a matter of interest, I fitted the new window myself, with the help of a friend.
    It took almost 5 hours, but saved me £90, which was the cheapest estimate I got.

    I am now off to a darkened room, to swear and probably sob a little bit.

        Halfrauds do tinting film, it's around £15-20 a roll, and available in many shades. Ebay is also a good source.

        Mines currently got a mirrored tint on, but I'm thinking of removing that and putting a limo tint on the rear and back windows.

                  I hope you had the stove suitably roped down in the back? It would not do have that kind of thing loose in the rear. A guy I knew in Germany survived the front end shunt he had on the Autobahn- it was the 20Kg laser power supply that hit him on the back the head that actually killed him.....

                  Ever since then I've taken great pains to secure anything heavy in the back.
