  • Brakes dont work

Ive just put new pads on the front, bled the system. The pedal feels ok unless you keep your foot on it, it sinks to the floor. I tried a new master cylinder thinking it was leaking through, but it still does it, there is no fluid anywhere its still all in the sytem. Ive dropped it in to my local garage now and they are stumped as well. Has anyone else had this problem?

If your sure there are no leaks and all is bled OK (did you do the load sensing valve as well?) its tricky.

Are you sure you didn't get a dodgy M/C? I'd take it apart and check the seals and springs are put in properly.

This issue came up 6 weeks ago over on the old forum so instead of sending billy back over there I've pinched the info...

to check the load sensing valve start the engine get someone to put their foot on the brake while you look underneath, when the footbrake is pressed there should be a smmall amount of movement on the lever arm, if it doesent move a wire brush and some wd40 usually does the trick

Just sorted my brakes,on the engine, the big silver manifold thing going from the carb to the turbo, with EFI DIESEL TURBO on it,has 2 small pipes either side on the front about 4-5 mm dia, both mine had come off.
Pushed them back on, pumped the brake pedal a few times, had a nice long testdrive, and the brakes are back to normal.
Can only think when i done the head a few monthes ago,i cant have put them on properly and they worked loose, wish i'd spotted that before shelling out £50.00 for a new master cylinder!!

if it`s not leaking out anywhere, it sure sounds like a faulty master cylinder good luck!

I had the same symptoms on an Izuzu Trooper, turned to be a seized brake caliper, try that b4 shelling out on a master cylinder.

Well the garage gave back my surf today and said that they couldnt fix it, they blame the load sense valve and said i probably need a new one.
I dont believe them! Iv had to resort to some drastic action, a main toyota dealer, Ill look at the calipers though that sounds more like it.
Mind you i might have to sell my laptop to pay the dealers bill.
let you know by the end of the week.

Billy, anyone with a half good understanding of cars could bypass the PSV for you, then see if it still happens. Don't go and buy a new one till you've asked on here if anyone has a used one, they don't go wrong often, so most would still be good.
Or you can replace it with a manual valve of the dealer starts quoting big numbers at you.

If its not leaking externally, it should'nt be the cause of the sinking pedal though. be carefull people don't start throwing your money around by just replacing one part after another till they find the problem.
