Was a loose connection, fortunatley on the accessible side so i didn't even have to take wheel off to get to it.
Battery was weak so i had to get a jump from my wifes car and it fired up fine. After a run to work it fired up ok at the end of the day so it looks like it's sorted. It does seem a slightly jerky on start up so im a bit concerned that i've done it all correctly, might be me being paranoid.

      Guys,
      My vehicle: 1995 3.0TD KZN130 MANUAL.
Starter: Nippon Denso (three serial numbeers on it: 28100-67060, 228000-5220 and 10011 pressed undder the 5220) One of em is DENSO's own..

I assume this is the 2.7KW as the picture on manual fits.

The starter can ONLY be taken out through the top, as the clutch hydraulic pipe (inflexible) stops the Starter Motor from coming out via the wheel arch. take previous advice and move fuel filter out of the way, tie a rope to the SM to hoik it out if neccessary it is heavy and the height doesnt help. It is Hell and grazed knuckles - invest in a pair of Mechanix gloves.

The Toyota's own parts are EXPENSIVE (Oooh reeeeely? I never! ), as they contain a lot of kit that you may not really need - seals, bolts, nuts which looked brand new and unworn. You can go to any DENSO dealer and get the 2 contacts and plunger for about half the price and pop em in.

I have just placed my order from Neville RICHARDS of Nippon Autoparts very helpful chappie.

He was saying the new contacts are more beefed up apparently, due to high wear rates noticed by ND - which kinda coincides with what we noticed in them.

      Forum admin:
Just the contacts were only 3.95 per set. Could we put this guy's details in a "parts dealer" link sticky we might have?

      Warmest Regards
      Udhi
