  • Kenlowe fans

    OK surf boffins
ive a KZN130 i tow a caravan at the moment and were likely to increase the size and weight of the van, now last year i had a problem mostly my fault with the temp when going up hill, but i dont want to even give the engine a reason to overheat and im thinking of getting a Kenlowe fan fitted, has anyone had one done and if so where did you fit it ive had a scan round both sides of the rad and i dont seem to have a lot of room what with the viscous fan and the air con one, i have chatted to kenlowe and they mentioned a 13" turbo fan but that wont fit, any ideas suggestions cheers
    Dave.

My 2.4 only suffers slightly on the M62 near Halifax the temp rises slightly. Your 3.0 should have no problem I tow my ABBEY SPECTRUM around 1600kgs to St Ives & back with no problems but i have had a new Modified Head fitted.
Your 3.0 should tow it a breeze.

Another option if you're worried it to fit a bonnet fan. That would held pull the hot air out that collects in the top of the engine compartment and woulsd also help pull more air through the rad. Try Pacet - link: http://www.pacet.co.uk/The P200 is around £100 if you fit it yourself. Shouldn't be too difficult.

You could always buy a bonnet off a srapper, cut and fit the Pacet to that one and if you want to sell the Surf on at a later stage, just replace with the original. That way you can also keep the fan.

If it's got an auto box start looking for a new one now. Fitting an auxiliary trans cooler will help your survival time though. If you have to fight the temp gauge on the engine too, well, Land Cruiser is what you need, larger engine, stronger drivetrain.

dont want a land cruiser alredy got the 3.OL and that is well big enough for a engine, and the Auto box is fine already got an extra trans cooler fitted just thinking of a way to bring extra cooling onto the rad when the engine is getting used hard ONLY UP VERY LARGE STEEP HILLS this is when the
temp needle moves, thanks for the replies guys

nev just read the whole posting and i can still hear the whoooooooooooooooosh as it flew over my head, ii can understand the internal cooler obstructing the water flow in the rad, but i dont have the mechanilcal know how to tackle a job like the mods that have been done, does anyone know of anyone or a company that does this sort of work?????

I have tried fitting the largest Pacet electric fan to my KZN185 and it got much hotter then it did with the standard viscos fan so its now back to standard ( I thought I might get a few more mpg) I have towed all over France in the summer standard fan no extra auto box cooling with a van weighing more then 1.5 tons with no problems and we have a Prado at work same running gear that has done in excess of 600,000 miles with a twin wheel trailer normaly with a Pajero on it (it helps save the delicate beasts) and its still going strong.
Make sure your antifreeze solution is not to strong as water cools much better keep it to about 30% for summer use.
