When surf comes back from the bodyshop i'm thinking of fitting the supertrux 4" lift kit ............ but havin just been in a fender bender anyone know about insurance hikes / coverage issues ????

Insurance companies are likely to take a dim view of any 'non standard' modifcations to your car. Even fitting alloy wheels has been know to cause claims problems in the past. Add 4" to the height of the car and it's bound to affect the steering and suspension in ways Toyota did not intend.
Honesty is the best policy as a 4" lift would be easily spotted. Most insurance companies don't tollerate mods like this and it's the realm of specialist companies like Adrian Flux. They insured my 2" lifted truck no problems (actualy cost less than Tescos....)

bend the truth... just say you've gone for a pro comp lift... would you tell them if you went to ATS and they replaced toyota with monroe shocks??
tell them you've fitted uprated springs for towing or something like that. at least then you're covered but not penalised for going "performance" mods.nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!

i watched one of those fly-on-the-wall documentries following avon & somerset police around. There was a head on smash non fatal, but with serious injuries, the police accident investigator took a keen interest in the suspension of one of the cars, and was trying to determine if the car had been lowered, so it does seem honesty is the best policy, and a professional to fit the kit would be a wise move too perhaps.[COLOR=red]Simon [/COLOR] '91 2.4td ssr-x

Insurance Co's are unpredicable, Co-op have covered some modified trucks that I know of. Adrian Flux are a good custom insurer, there are some other Co in the back of Land Rover mags that cover modified trucks.
NFU used to be great, thats who still insure my pickup with all its mods, but I don't think they are taking new policies on modified trucks, which is why its still insured even though I havn't used it for nearly a year but I'm worried I'll have trouble insuring it again!.

phoned around re insurance cover on a 4" lift with 33's, no one will touch me ........... but can get cover on a 2" lift with 31's on standard 15" rims ..... looks like after previous non payout insurance issues ive heard about im gonna run with a 2" from supertrux ... anyone done this themselves .... how hard, how long ??....... and thats not my stamina !!

I use a company called Roadsure,tel 02089899595.They have a policy where you dont get no claims,but it doesnt seem to matter what mods you have as long as the engine isnt modified,and they are cheap compared to others i tried.Example Adrian Flux,£374 tpft £400 xs,Roadsure £354 fully comp £100 xs so i went with Roadsure naturally,and i even got roadside recovery included

Then set the new bars on the rear bolt to 14ish" inches (for 15" wheels) from top of wheel rim to bottem of the middle of the front wheel arch lip for stardard ride hieght, or 15" for a bit of lift, but you may have to saw the upper bump stops in haft as they will hit to early giving a harse ride if the bars are tweaked much. DOn't go more than 1 1/2" over standard unless you have fitted manual locking front hubs, or the front CV's won't last long.
Toyota's stock setting is 2 1/2" from center of tip of driveshaft, to the center of the tip of the front side lower wishbone cam. (kind hard to follow, but it works out. )4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...
