Rear diff can be removed while the axle is on the car, just need to remove the half shafts. Front diff is best removed from the car as it is only 3 bolts (mind you it's a bu**er to get back on again unless you have the car on ramps as you are limited for space and it's heavy) that mount the diff and then the drive shaft bolts (6 per side and they are really tight) and the propshaft bolts (4 and they are also real tight). Couple of vacuum pipes and 2 wiring connectors and it will come out, then you can change the diff unit on the bench and it's not difficult.

    Cheers

Sounds to me like either the o/d is not working or the clutch on the auto box is not locking when you get over 50MPH. Mine is only revving at 2500 RPM at 70MPH.
When I get up to 50MPH, just after the o/d kicks in and the revs dro, there is another subtle change in engine tone. I believe that is the clutch locking.
I hope this is of some help. I may be well off the mark though!
There was a lot of discussion on this topic in a thread I started. If I can find it I'll post a link.
        It's only a hobby!

thanks mate when you say clutch do you mean torque converter.. i have spoken to a mechanic who says that if the torque converter was faulty i would tell as it would fell like a sliping clutch (manual)........

The Torque converter is a lock up one which basically locks the TC over a certain speed.

It does sound like something is wrong somewhere. Unless someone has put different diffs in to compensate for large wheels and tyres as some point, the standard diffs would not give you these revs with that speed.

Mine does 80 at 3200 rpm (measured on a GPS) in lockup top with overdrive on.

            Cheers
