warning light

On the last couple of trips out towing the caravan I have noticed the engine warning light coming on when giving it some welly to pass other vehicles at about 60 mph. with overdrive off. I instinctively back off and the light goes off. Does anyone know if this is a simple warning that you are approaching the rev limits? In all other respects the car is perfect - 2.4 tdi auto.

Try a search for fault codes and then test.Light indicates a fault somewhere.

Thanks for the suggestion but isn't a fault code given when the ignition is turned, before start up? The only time my light shows is as when stated.

fault code comes up when you short the correct terminals on the diagnostics plug, the light coming on when drivig indicates a problem and that a fault code would have been recorded. shoot me if i am wrong but that is the way it works on merc lorries
