2.4 Turbo Diesel shut off shake

I am considering purchasing an 89 Surf four door, but when I turn the engine off, it shakes the whole vehicle. I tried a friends identical vehicle and it shuts off smoothly.

Does anyone have any ideas of the cause of the problem?

It could be 'run on' caused by carbon deposits in the cylinders 'glowing' causing the engine to run on, but then again the pump should cut off with the ingnition, maybe its the pump shut off valve leaking?
